A late-December winter storm, named Ivy by The Weather Channel, spread snowfall from the mountains of Southern California to the Plains and Midwest.
Low pressure moved into Southern California on Dec. 28, where it brought the most significant rain and mountain snow of the season so far. Some of the highest elevations in the mountains of Southern California picked up a foot or more of snowfall.
Snowfall spread across the Rockies and into the Plains and Midwest through Dec. 29 and early Dec. 30.
A few mountain locations in southwest Colorado picked up about 2 feet of snow.
To the east of the Rockies, 6 inches or more of snowfall piled up at several locations in a narrow strip from central Nebraska to central Iowa, northwest Illinois, southern Wisconsin and northern Lower Michigan.
Up to a foot of snow fell in a few areas, including near Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Nora, Illinois.
Most other areas of the Northern and Central Plains, upper Midwest and Great Lakes picked up less than 6 inches of snow.
