Hurricane Earl tracked well to the southeast of Bermuda Thursday night into early Friday and is now headed farther out to sea as it transitions into a non-tropical low-pressure system.

Bermuda's airport reported gusts of 40 to 50 mph as Earl passed by the archipelago.

Earl will send ocean swells toward the U.S. East Coast into the weekend, despite tracking hundreds of miles offshore. That will increase the threat of rip currents for beachgoers in some areas.

It's a good time to make sure you have a plan in place in case of a hurricane. Information about hurricane preparedness can be found here.
