Hurricane Julia brought flooding rain to Central America but also impacted areas from the Windward Islands to northern South America while in its formative stages.
The disturbance that became Julia triggered flooding in Trinidad and Tobago and northern South America before eventually becoming a tropical depression near the coast of northern Venezuela on Oct. 6.
Tropical Depression Thirteen then strengthened into Tropical Storm Julia on Oct. 7 while tracking toward the southwest Caribbean Sea.
Julia became a hurricane on the evening of Oct. 8 and made landfall the following morning near Laguna de Perlas, Nicaragua, at 3:15 a.m. EDT, with estimated sustained winds of about 85 mph.
After weakening to a tropical storm over Nicaragua, Julia briefly entered the eastern Pacific Ocean Oct. 9-10. That made it join Bonnie as the second named storm of the season to crossover from the Atlantic to the eastern Pacific.
Julia dissipated on Oct. 10 while located over Guatemala.
More than two dozen deaths have been blamed on both Julia's direct and indirect impacts in Central America, according to The Associated Press.
