WASHINGTON (TND) — Some of the 30 million people hit by severe storms throughout Thursday are facing an overnight threat with tornadoes, hail and life-threatening flash flooding reported in multiple states.

A large flash flood watch is still in effect for western North Carolina. Rescue crews are on standby as they've already gotten more than six inches of rain in some areas.

At least one county in the state has already issued a State of Emergency. People in Haywood County are being told to avoid travel until water levels start to drop but it could be tomorrow before that happens in some areas.

Severe thunderstorm watches and flood watches spread throughout parts of North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia until early Friday.

Kentucky, Ohio and South Carolina have also seen tornado warnings throughout the evening.

In Alabama, the National Weather Service says a possible tornado damaged several homes and took down a high-voltage power line.

First responders in Alabama and South Carolina are also reporting trees and powerlines down from possible tornadoes.

In Indiana, NWS says a large and dangerous tornado touched down about an hour outside of Indianapolis.

More storms are in the forecast heading into Memorial Day weekend. Widespread rain is expected along the East Coast Friday with the strongest storms possible along the I-95 corridor.
