A 3.9-magnitude earthquake shook much of Ventura County late Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

UPDATE Feb. 26: 4.1 magnitude earthquake jostles parts of Ventura County

The quake was reported at 4:25 p.m. with a depth of about 11.6 miles. The epicenter was near East Sulphur Mountain Road, west of Polly Road, about 6.2 miles northwest of Santa Paula, according to USGS. The site is in a sparsely populated unincorporated area.

Initial reports indicated the shake was magnitude 4.0. Updates later moved the number up and down between 3.8 and 3.9, with the figure set at 3.9 as of late Friday morning.

Several smaller quakes were also recorded in the same general area before and after the magnitude 3.9 event.

No damage was reported, local officials said. Authorities with the Ventura County Sheriff's Office – including the sheriff's station in Ojai – said no calls came in. In Santa Paula, a police dispatcher said that agency hadn't had received any calls. A Ventura County Fire Department captain said the agency hadn't received any notable damage reports.

An interactive USGS map that received more than 1,000 responses indicated light shaking was felt around much of the county. The jostling extended beyond county lines into Santa Barbara and Los Angeles counties, the map showed.

Anyone who felt the earthquake can report the experience to the USGS at earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/ew1644539100/tellus.

The last notable quake to be reported in the area occurred on Jan. 16, when a 3.1-magnitude event struck shortly after 4 p.m.
