Being evicted due to hurricane damage? These FEMA resources are available
Time is running out for some Orange County residents who were told last week they had seven days to leave their apartments.

Flooding from Hurricane Ian left Sumerset Apartments on Lee Road full of mold and mildew.
Now, some residents have nowhere to go.

FEMA spokesperson Jann Traacey said people about to be displaced might qualify for different types of assistance, including the transitional shelter assistance, also known as the hotel program.
“We may be able to pay their first two months rent as well as their security deposit to get them into a new apartment,” Tracey said, adding that displaced residents should “file quickly, as soon as possible” for the assistance.

The apartment needs to be inspected by FEMA before residents turn over their keys to assess the property and make sure it’s truly uninhabitable.
