BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) — Exactly one month after Hurricane Ida, Brenda Joseph recalls the August night the monster storm damaged her Baton Rouge home.

“I couldn’t sleep. I was up all night. I was nervous and just couldn’t sleep. The wind was blowing so hard, and it damaged my roof a little more, especially around that fireplace,” said Joseph.

Joseph signed up for the Operation Blue Roof Program. She said the process was quick and easy.

“I called FEMA one day. They came out the next day, and five days later, I had my blue rooftop,” said Joseph.

“The process just allows for those maybe we’ve missed,” Josh Marx with USACE said. “We’re aggressively trying to get down to communities that maybe don’t have wifi, don’t have power, to ensure that everyone who is eligible gets one.”
