PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -Tuesday morning the Panama City Commission addressed the latest update on their appeals process with FEMA in regards to the civic center.

According to City Manager Mark McQueen, the city has conducted a reenactment of the hurricane event on the civic center, working with engineers to document the condition after that test.

McQueen said the test is a part of the appeal process.

Since conducting the test the city officials say that they believe the structure was more than 50% damaged.

The appeal is now at the region four headquarters for FEMA for their consideration.

“FEMA contends that it was 43 percent. We believe that we provided enough documentation that shows from confident engineers that have documented the fact that it has been damaged significantly,” said McQueen.

There is no timeline on how long it will take for FEMA to make the decision.
