Texas is sending more troops to the border. On Monday, Governor Greg Abbott announced the deployment of hundreds of National Guardsmen and Department of Public Safety troopers as Title 42 comes to an end.

Title 42, the rule used by President Donald Trump to keep asylum seekers in Mexico during the pandemic, is set to expire on Thursday.

“America is not open to people who are trying to come here illegally,” said Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

On Monday, Abbott announced the new “Texas Tactical Border Force,” which will intercept and repel large groups trying to enter the state from Mexico.

“Right now, as we're speaking, the Texas National Guard is loading Black Hawk helicopters and C-130s and deploying specially trained National Guard members for the Texas Tactical Border Force,” Abbott said during a press conference at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Abbott also vowed to continue busing migrants from small Texas border towns to major U.S. cities like Washington, D.C., Chicago, and New York.

“Thousands have been bused already. Many thousands more will be bused in the coming days because of the massive influx of illegal migrants coming across the border,” Abbott said.

Meanwhile, Democratic Congressmen from Texas, Joaquin Castro and Greg Casar, announced $38 million in expedited FEMA funding for Catholic Charities, the City of San Antonio, and United Way of San Antonio.

“As asylum seekers are fleeing violence and catastrophe, I’m proud to have worked with Congressman Castro and the Biden Administration to expedite this funding and ensure people are welcomed to our community in a safe, orderly, and legal manner,” Casar said.
