SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) home inspectors will be helping with disaster recovery efforts following the Gray and Oregon Road wildfires in Spokane County.
According to Spokane County Emergency Management (SCEM), those who apply for FEMA assistance may receive a call to schedule an appointment with a damage inspector. That call may come from an out-of-state, unknown or restricted phone number. Those calls must be answered for the applications to go through, as failure to do so could lead to delays.
Once the FEMA inspector arrives, residents should be prepared to discuss the damage their home endured, including repair receipts, photos and any other disaster-related documentation.
According to SCEM, FEMA inspectors generally carry an official photo ID. If a badge isn't visible, residents should ask the inspector to show it to them. Those asking for money or banking information are likely scammers.
In addition to FEMA, SBA Physical Damage Loans are also available for victims of the wildfires. At this time, SBA disaster loans are available to:
- Homeowners for up to $500,000 to replace or repair their primary residence.
- Renters and homeowners up to $100,000 to replace or repair personal property.
- Businesses and nonprofits organizations up to $2 million to cover disaster losses not fully covered by insurance.
