Federal funding approved for Kentucky after April tornadoes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Governor Andy Beshear requested a federal disaster declaration after declaring a state of emergency as 19 tornadoes went through Kentucky in April.
President Joe Biden approved the request on Wednesday, according to a release.
The approval makes federal funding available for those who were affected in Boyd, Carter, Fayette, Greenup, Henry, Jefferson, Jessamine, Mason, Oldham, Union and Whitley counties. Beshear said more counties could be added after more damage assessments are finished.
The funding can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans for uninsured property loss and other programs to help recover from the effects of the disaster, according to the release. The federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for the entire state.
Those who were affected by the April storms in the above-listed areas can apply for help by clicking or tapping here, calling 800-624-3362, or by using the FEMA App. Anyone who uses a relay service, captioned telephone service or others can give FEMA the number for that service.
