Metro Nashville sustains $3M in damage after deadly tornadoes, nearly 900 properties hit

Nashville Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and Metro Codes Department have concluded damage assessments following the deadly tornadoes that hit Middle Tennessee on Dec. 9.

Metro Nashville Davidson County suffered more than $3 million in damages. According to Nashville OEM, nearly 900 properties sustained damaged. Of those properties, 796 were residential properties and 65 were commercial properties.

Nashville OEM reports 300 properties were 'affected'. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), a property that was affected sustained mostly cosmetic damage.

According to the damage assessment report, a total of 387 structures were deemed to have 'minor' damage, defined as repairable non-structural damage.

Nashville OEM reports 129 structures have 'major' damage, meaning these properties have significant damage or require extensive repairs.

Lastly, 45 structures were destroyed, according to Nashville Fire. Of those properties, 33 were residential and 12 were commercial. Those structures are a total loss.

According to the Nashville Fire Department, the Disaster Recovery Center at the Madison Public Library, located at 610 Gallatin Pike S., is serving as a one-stop-shop for survivors seeking assistance.

FEMA representatives are on hand to provide guidance and support, ensuring that survivors have access to the resources they need to navigate the recovery process.
