SPOKANE COUNTY- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has started the process of picking up the pieces for those who lost everything in the Gray and Oregon Road Fires.

The Biden Administration recently approved an emergency declaration to assist victims of the wildfires from August 2023.

The concern amongst agencies like the Spokane County Sheriff's Office is that people will be expecting a visit from a FEMA official, but they could end up giving their personal information to people impersonating officials.

When expecting a FEMA inspector, look out for imposters.

Real inspectors carry an official FEMA photo ID. Ask the agent to show their badge if it is not visible.

A FEMA agent will already have your nine-digit registration number.

A real inspector will also never ask for money. Banking information or Social Security numbers should never be given to anyone claiming to be a FEMA agent.

If foul play is suspected, visit https://www.identitytheft.gov/#/ to make a report of call Crime Check.

To start the FEMA process, you can apply by visiting https://www.disasterassistance.gov/, through the FEMA mobile app or by calling 1-800-621-3362.
